MONARCH 120 specialty carbon black is a general purpose low color pigment black suitable for a broad range of tinting applications. Easy to disperse, this economical pigment black can enable higher loadings in most systems. 

Application Information

Printing Inks

MONARCH 120 is a low structure powdered pigment black that is broadly applicable in a variety of inks. It is particularly suitable for web offset coldset and letterpress printing inks offering very blue undertone and high loading opportunities. Additionally, it provides excellent rub resistance, good viscosity and flow properties.

Coatings

This pigment black can be used in a variety of coatings applications. It is recommended for underbody/underhood automotive, general industrial, or architectural trade sales applications where high jetness is not required. It is also recommended for use as a tinting black since the large particle size allows for high loading and helps to reduce problems with floating and flooding in liquid coating tinting applications. It can be easily dispersed using a high speed disperser for liquid coatings or a single screw extruder for powder coatings.

Other Applications

In addition to the applications listed above, this product is commonly used as a pigment in Sealant Systems and General Dispersions.

The dispersibility of MONARCH 120 pigment black depends on the equipment used and the formulation. This product is an easy to disperse alternative compared to its pelleted equivalent, BLACK PEARLS® 120.
